On Thursday October 9, Howie Hawkins will take a citizen-led tour of fracking sites in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania. Hawkins will be joined by former Binghamton Mayor Matt Ryan. Hawkins invites members of the media and Governor Andrew Cuomo to join him. The tour will begin at Susquehanna County Courthouse in Montrose, Pennsylvania at 11am on Thursday. Hawkins will hold a press conference in Binghamton after the tour to share his findings.
The citizens tour will be led by Vera Scroggins of Susquehanna County who will take Hawkins and those in attendance to meet with families whose land, water and health have been negatively impacted by drilling operations in Pennsylvania.
Hawkins' invitation to Cuomo to participate in the citizens' tour comes the same week as revelations of the Governor's interference to downplay the negative environmental impacts of hydrofracking.
Hawkins visit to Pennsylvania's drilling operations comes on the tail of a poll release on Tuesday October 7 which shows that 56% of New York voters oppose fracking and that 60% believe any economic gains would be temporary.
As Hawkins meets ordinary Pennsylvanians most effected environmental dangers of fracking, and as Republican Gubernatorial candidate Rob Astorino is conducted on a tour by Cabot Oil and Gas Corp., the second-largest gas producer in Pennsylvania, Governor Cuomo continues his refusal to take a position.
Tour guide Vera Scroggins has also hosted tours for Zephyr Teachout & Tim Wu and Yoko Ono & Sean Lennon.
To RSVP for the tour, members of the media should contact Hawkins for Governor Media Coordinator David Doonan, (518) 265-4030, email@example.com
